going thru the Franklin Lock

Time for a glass of wine! Cheers to all of you and to us.
We made it through all 5 locks on the OWW, the last one, St Lucie Lock, at noon today with no trouble at all. Won’t see any more until we’re up in the New York area.
The lake was “choppy”, a rougher ride than we had hoped. Boo hoo! I lost my tomato plant due to the wind and Richard gave it a sea burial. I hope the fish enjoy it since I won’t.
On the way to the Indiantown Marina, we encountered a (palm tree) log floating across the waterway and Richard played good samaritan. He snatched it and dragged it all the way to the marina for other boater’s safety.
Today, we are anchored near the Ft Pierce north bridge.

I'm frustrated. Having issues with posting fotos.  Will try again when we dock in Moorehaven.

Docked in Moorehaven and walked around town, then left, and are ovenighting in Clewiston.  Will take off tomorrow at 0630 and get an early start across the lake.

Day 7 along the OWW (Okechobee Water Way

We ended up staying in Ft Myers at the Marina until Tuesday to get some much needed rest and get in some sightseeing. Also, attempted to “try” and get a little more organized (this is like a never ending task for me). We are constantly looking for something we just put away and I always have more to put away!

Went through our first lock Tuesday - Franklin Lock – with no problems (lock #1 – only 999 more to go) and docked at a pier connected to a small park sharing the space with another boat (Sea Cow) which is heading back home to Davie, Fl. We’ll follow each other across the Lake.

Lock # 2 – Ortuna Lock – 8’ lift. (how’s that for Nautic talk?) It’s now 1100 and everyone is happy. Sunny skies, smooth water, and very little wind. Can I expect this the entire journey?

Ft Myers Yacht Basin Monday AM

Richard (Captain/senior mechanic) has engine running again -starting cellanoid connections cleaned.  Issue resolved and  we are getting ready to be on our way to cross the Lake.  Stormed all night, but clearing up now.

1030am sunday

Well! Engine won't turn over so right now Richard (captain) is now playing mechanic.

Sunday

Sorry for not being as prompt as I had promised, but the days have been longer than we had planned, mostly due to failed attempts to anchor. We are here at the Ft Myers Yacht Basin (city marina), but leaving soon.  The weekend boaters were out en masse yesterday and along with the winds made it quite a stressful day. Today should be real nice and smooth as we will be entering the Calosahachee (can u spell it?)

However,  I do have quite a few pictures which I will post now.  You'd rather see those anyway.

We are looking forward to some quiet times and days.

OUR FIRST DAY

WE'RE ON OUR WAY!  HURRAH!

Finally made it away from the dock at 1120am.  One would think we were planning a trip around the world for as busy as have been.

So glad we were able to get in visits with so many of our family members and friends.  Thank you to our neighbors, Suzy and Lee for the lovely and delicious send off.

We had a very long day yesterday and are going to have a later departure this AM after getting things a little more organized.  Will post more later.

Monday, April 19, 2010

Hi family and friends,

Today was supposed to be our “revised” departure day. However, we will leave Thursday as
we both have colds and don’t think it’s the best way to start.

What a challenge this preparation has been; moving everything you need for 7 months from 2200 sq ft to about 350 sq ft. We probably have “stuff” we’ll never use. It is amazing how much you think you will need! However, we have plugged along and are just about ready. The “crew”, Bear and Barbie, have had their haircuts, the bikes, even an exercise machine are on board. The house is prepped

And in the hands of our wonderful neighbors . Visits with quite a few of our family and friends have been made. All we need to do is –Be On Our Way!

Will keep you posted. Promise.
